Well, what can I say. It's been an amazing year! The above picture marks my 5th market stall this year - the 3rd at Paddington, and 2 at The Grounds. I've been really ramping up Funky Portrait with my first solo show in August, then 2 group shows with Tetch Gallery, a launch of my online store with my first lot of Art Giclee prints.
What most people don't see is all the hard work and sweat behind the scenes, all the $ down the drain from not knowing how to use Facebook ads, setting up and managing my own websites, trying to grow Instagram with little results, early mornings hauling heavy stuff to/from markets, hustling thru my networks asking for shares of my art, sending original work to influencers never to be heard from or seen again, ad campaigns with no sales at all whatsoever, shows with no sales, markets with little to no sales, going to art shows and events to meet new people and try to understand the Arts industry, cold emails to connect with galleries with the occasional rude response, collaborations with promises that don't work out, research research research, investing in little business courses, giving away original art for free, hustling to finish off a client's portrait on top of a stressful full-time job, choosing not to go out with friends because Im too busy... I could go on.
And I could give up!
But I won't.
For some reason, clients happen. They somehow find me and they pay for an original artwork. People also message me and ask if they could buy an Art Giclee print. I even have an email list now! So, I'm choosing to count the wins. Sure, the costs are exceeding the results right now, but that's ok. Im choosing to trust in the process and to be confident that in time and with constant action, the results will tip in my favour. This year, Ive also met and connected with amazing artists and other creatives, formed meaningful friendships and connected with more likeminded people. And for me, no $ value can measure up to meaningful connection!
So I am gearing up for 2017 (and I hope you are too!). It's going to be HUGE! Watch this space.
